MAKE Technologies announces Strategic Modernization Roadmap (SMR) Engagements with the Ontario Provincial Government
January 29, 2008
Vancouver, BC –– MAKE Technologies Inc., an industry leader in SOA modernization, is pleased to announce the execution of a series of Strategic Modernization Roadmap (SMR) engagements within the Ontario Public Sector.
The Strategic Modernization Roadmap focuses on providing an in-depth analysis of key legacy applications, and is designed to provide a clear understanding of interconnected application dependencies, application metrics, and code-base analysis. This information, coupled with key stakeholder interviews, is used to define strategic remedies, plans and budget recommendations. In addition, the SMR takes into account the most appropriate solution approaches, such as Application Transformation, Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) replacement, application re-hosting, and legacy SOA wrapping to correctly address each application area.
The current environment being analyzed consists of many distributed applications made up of multiple computer language environments including several million lines of mainframe-based COBOL and PL/1 code.
“Over the past 3 years we have been working closely with Provincial Governments to develop these deep roadmap strategies that help transform and re-energize often antiquated applications,” says Jean-Guy Faubert, MAKE Technologies Executive Vice-President of Global Sales. “The immense complexities inherent in these brittle, interwoven systems cause huge concerns regarding the risks associated with any potential modifications. MAKE’s SMR engagement directly addresses these concerns, revealing all of the legacy eco-system’s archaeological layers, including the ‘tribal knowledge’ that has evolved hand-in-hand with it over time.”
“MAKE’s SMR approach is an excellent, high-value service offering that has provided us with deep insights into how application modernization and transformation applies to our environment,” said Robert Duern, Senior Manager Solutions Engineering, Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO). “It has enabled us to challenge and verify our assumptions, clarify our strategic options and prepare for the road ahead.”
Why Modernize?
In a widespread effort to reduce organizational exposure to application failure, increase productivity and drive efficiency, organizations today are examining modernization options to evolve existing application portfolios into systems based on the latest service-oriented architecture (SOA) standards. Of particular concern are mission-critical “legacy” systems that were never designed to run core operations in the context of an increasingly web-enabled infrastructure. These systems represent a significant liability that if not addressed, will continue to grow, placing core business processes at severe risk.
